Stretching our talents to provide our clients with unique products is a welcomed challenge here at Levy. Working with the Chicago White Sox on a very special gift item was a wonderful way to start the holiday season.
Representatives of the Chicago White Sox had had the opportunity to meet Levy’s Director of Business Development during a Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) event. Wanting to work with a woman-owned business, they gave us a call.
They wanted to create a special gift to be presented to their sponsors and VIPs. They had the idea of creating a custom wine bottle that honored retired first baseman and Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, Frank Thomas. They were also seeking a creative way to package the bottles of wine in order to present them as gifts to recipients.
Levy Recognition presented the White Sox with a few different options. The White Sox had created a unique design for the wine bottle that would feature a front and backside to be etched. They designed a custom Frank Thomas logo to be used on the bottle’s front side. Later, they came back with a request to make the wine bottles two-sided.
The White Sox wanted the front side of the wine bottle to feature the custom Frank Thomas logo and the backside of the bottle to include information about the player’s accomplishments as well as a commemorative inscription.
The finished bottle features silver filled etching on dark green glass. The front of the bottle shows the Frank Thomas #35 logo designed by the Chicago White Sox. On the back, silver etching tells of Thomas’s accomplishments as a White Sox, including the honor of being the first White Sox to be elected to the Hall of Fame as a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. The etching also lists his career highlights.
Additional Challenges and Solutions
The Chicago White Sox wanted to present gift recipients their bottles of wine in a creative way. Levy Recognition suggested custom wooden boxes laser etched with the White Sox logo. Materials used to create the first box design created challenges. The silver fill used inside the White Sox logo bled into the wood.
Leatherette boxes were chosen to replace the wooden boxes. The White Sox liked the option because the texture of the boxes resembled a baseball. The upgraded box also ensured the White Sox logo appeared correctly.
Custom bottles bottled with wines from Robert Mondavi are the perfect way to commemorate and celebrate the career of Frank Thomas. The White Sox organization was very excited about how the wine bottles turned out. This special gift was presented to VIPs, organization sponsors, and fans. Frank “The Big Hurt” Thomas autographed every bottle!
